Nakuru

Nakuru is one of my favourite towns.  Maybe it’s because my wife is from Nakuru and I always have a great time when I’m there.  Like a home away from home.  It’s a little slower than Nairobi but don’t be fooled.  This town really can rock after hours I tell you.  Go to Taidys with floors of energy - these people know how to have a good time.  Also try Summit, it’s a massive arena style club with regular live acts and a great dance floor.  Food is served all night and the owners are also connected to Lake Nakuru Lodge (inside Nakuru National Park)  another must see - breathtaking views from the bar - I’m day dreaming again.

The best place in my books to stay when in Nakuru, Kenya is The Merica Hotel.  We cover this hotel in our accommodation section.  With a raised lobby and panoramic glass view elevators.  Each floor overlooks the lobby, bar and restaurant areas.  It’s quite central with lots of shops, bars and banks nearby.

I told you, the view from the bar of Lake Nakuru Lodge is truly stunning!  Now, I’m not actually endorsing Guinness but hey, it tastes so goooood, when it’s cold!  You can see a view of part of Nakuru park.  I didn’t want to leave.

Lake Nakuru Lodge - Bar to Pool View

The drive to Nakuru from Nairobi can vary in time from a couple of hours in the good weather, to many hours in the bad weather or bad traffic conditions.  But overall, the drive is quite pleasant with not many disturbances along the way and lovely views.  Make sure to stop in Naivasha for some Nyama Choma along the the way.  Look out for Lake Naivasha.   You will drive along the Rift Valley at some point where the views will leave you speechless.

From left to right - my sister-in-law Rahab, Me, my wife Lisa and my dear sister Theresa.  See the rift valley behind us!  If any of you have have driven to Nakuru from Nairobi - you’ll know where we were.
