Cheap Kenya Property

Property in Kenya

Buying a home in Kenya is a confusing task and with so many agents involved you can easily give up before you even start. It appears that property agents in Kenya are so busy extracting money from clients they confuse them and run the risk of losing them. Trying to rent a home is a nightmare where you have an agent that is suppossed to be supplying you with a home and collecting money from the landlord, but insists on you paying them a often inflated fee just to show you properties. This is how it is in Kenya but do not be conned by paying more than you should and try to make an arrangement to pay the agent kidogo only if they find you the right place.

Many Property Agents in Kenya are Time Wasting Money Grabbers

So many agents are so disorganized they can waste your whole day taking you to properties with no way to gain access because they had not told the landlord they were coming. But you’ve already committed by paying the fee so try and locate properties without agents first if you have the time and word-of-mouth is often the best way. Of course, if you are new to a city or town then you may have no mouths to hear words from which is where you must use a good property agent.

Average Property Rental prices in Kenya

Property rental prices will vary according to area and city. As an average a decent one bedroom apartment in Nairobi will cost you anything from Ksh20,000 a month and paying Ksh40,000 a month is not unusual. A two bedroom apartment in an area such as Lavington could cost you from Ksh35,000 and up where as a two bedroom flat in Hurlingham will cost around the same.

Buying Apartments in Nairobi

Finding cheap property prices in Nairobi is possible but you must proceed with caution if you are not familiar with Kenya as a whole. There are some good deals in Nairobi but be careful of fake agents who will collect deposits from you and then vanish. It is possible to find a two or three bedroom luxury apartment in Nairobi for between Ksh6 million and Ksh10 million which converts roughly into between £45,000 and £130,000 with current exchange rates. The truth is that exchange rates can fluctuate so severely in Kenya that you may want to take heed of the political climate prior to purchasing and making a decision on whether to wait for a favourable exchange rate before converting such large amounts of money.
